Always Be Caring (The Real ABCs of Sales)
Selling is not easy. That does not mean it has to be complicated.
Over 25 years ago, I discovered a simple principle that changed everything for me.
Always Be Caring.
Not Always Be Closing.
Always Be Caring.
When you shift your focus from what you can sell to the value you can create, everything changes. Sales stops being transactional and becomes transformational.
The best sales professionals are not chasing deals.
They are solving problems, building trust, and serving people.
That is the foundation.
⸻
1. Be Honest With Yourself
Thomas Jefferson once said, “Honesty is the first chapter in the book of wisdom.”
That stayed with me.
I made a commitment early on to be honest with myself about my strengths, weaknesses, habits, and priorities.
I asked for help when I needed it.
I focused on what mattered.
I stopped pretending.
When you are honest with yourself, you take your power back.
⸻
2. Commit to the Process
Success does not come from one big moment. It comes from consistent action.
When you decide to level up your life, you create momentum. That momentum attracts the right people, opportunities, and outcomes.
Trust your process.
Stay in motion.
You already have what it takes inside of you.
⸻
3. Keep Going No Matter What
If J.K. Rowling had given up, the world would have missed one of the greatest stories ever told.
She was rejected again and again.
A single mom, struggling and uncertain.
But she did not quit.
Neither should you.
Your breakthrough is often on the other side of the moment you feel like giving up.
⸻
4. Have Faith, Take Risks, and Get Uncomfortable
Growth does not happen in your comfort zone.
It happens when you step into uncertainty, take risks, trust your instincts, and move forward without having all the answers.
Faith is not passive.
Faith requires action.
Believe in what is possible, then go create it.
⸻
5. Be Patient
Life will test you.
There will be delays, setbacks, and unexpected challenges.
Patience is a discipline.
Stay focused on the long game. Keep showing up. Keep building.
What is meant for you often requires time to develop.
⸻
6. Be Confident Even Before You Feel Ready
Confidence is built through action.
You do not wait until everything is perfect.
You start and improve as you go.
As Mark Victor Hansen said, “Do not wait until everything is just right. It will never be perfect.”
Take the step.
Then take the next one.
⸻
7. Make It Fun
If you do not enjoy the process, you will not sustain it.
Every morning, I create momentum. I move my body, clear my mind, and align for the day.
Then I turn sales into a game.
Activity. Being. Connection. Direction.
Activity is the actions you take.
Being is who you are becoming.
Connection is the relationships you build.
Direction is where everything is leading.
When you make it fun, you stay in the game longer. That is where you win.
⸻
8. Set Yourself Up to Win
Winning is not accidental. It is designed.
I break my day into focused blocks. I prioritize what matters most. I tackle the hardest tasks early.
Small wins create momentum.
Momentum creates confidence.
Confidence creates results.
Stack your wins daily.
⸻
9. Find Mentors and Coaches
You are not meant to do this alone.
A mentor helps you see what is possible.
A coach helps you get there faster.
The right people will challenge you, support you, and hold you accountable.
That is how you grow.
⸻
10. Create Your Ideal Self Image
One of my mentors, Brian Tracy, said, “The person we believe ourselves to be will always act in a manner consistent with our self image.”
This is everything.
If you do not see yourself as successful, you will not act like it.
If you do not believe you are capable, you will hold yourself back.
Visualize it.
Speak it.
Step into it.
Become the person you are meant to be before the world recognizes it.
⸻
Final Thought
These lessons did not just shape my sales career.
They shaped my life.
They are not limited to sales.
You can apply them to your business, relationships, health, and purpose.
I will leave you with this.
Believe in yourself.
Take action every single day.
Never underestimate the power of faith.
You can create the life you see in your mind.
Make it a great one.
